Description
Rehabilitation of a small wetland the excavation of abusively dumped material to different depths, creating channels and islands around existing Tamarisk trees. Creating of embankments with the excavated material, construction of two birdwatching hides, fencing and planting of typical species of such a habitat. This project will be unique in that it will be linked to a freshwater stream on site, thereby channeling some of this water to the wetland area. This will result in a first such freshwater habitat type in the Maltese islands with the other existing wetlands being mainly brackish and hyper saline in nature. An educational area will also be created.
