Description

The project proposes to intervene at the scale of the priority hydraulic basin of Tensift, at the level of three KBAs in Morocco, to restore the habitats of the endemic fish Luciobarbus magniatlantis , classified as Endangered (EN). The main partners: Hydraulic Basin Agency, Waters and Forests, University of Marrakech and local authorities deploy their skills and prerogatives for the integrated management of water resources in the basin, including the conservation of aquatic biodiversity. Update data on fish and revise its conservation status, mitigate the main threats, restore connectivity between water reservoirs hosting fish in relation to ecological flow, restore habitats by installing spawning grounds, improve the riparian strip by riparian plantations, install the reedbed system to purify village waste water and reduce waste water discharges into the river, inform and raise awareness among local populations of the importance of conserving aquatic biodiversity and involve them in the restoration ecosystems. Allow to strengthen the capacities of the local section of the AESVT Al Haouz in the management of the projects.

This project is funded as part of a partnership between DIMFE and CEPF.
