DIMFE showcased on Monaco Info: Field visit in Türkiye

News

As part of its biannual Board meeting, the Donors’ Initiative for Mediterranean Freshwater Ecosystems (DIMFE) travelled to Türkiye to visit two projects supported by the Initiative: in the Gediz Delta and the Büyük Menderes River Basin.

On this occasion, Monaco Info joined the DIMFE delegation to capture the visit and discover how these projects are helping restore wetlands, reconnect ecosystems, and promote sustainable water use across the region.

Watch the full report here.

In the Gediz Delta, near Izmir, DIMFE supports Doğa Derneği’s project “Sustainable Life for the Freshwater Ecosystem of the Gediz Delta.” This Ramsar site, home to over 300 bird species, faces growing pressure from pollution and urban expansion. The project works to protect its ecological integrity through scientific monitoring, habitat restoration, and community-based ecotourism. Learn more about the project.

Further south, in the Büyük Menderes Basin, DIMFE supports WWF-Türkiye’s “Water Stewardship in the Büyük Menderes River Basin” project, which promotes regenerative cotton farming, restoration of aquatic connectivity, and inclusive water governance to address pollution and overuse. Learn more about the project.

Through this visit, DIMFE Board members were able to see firsthand the impact of DIMFE-funded initiatives on both biodiversity conservation and local livelihoods, a story now shared through Monaco Info’s lenses to raise broader awareness of freshwater challenges in the Mediterranean.
